Target CGPA calculator

Find the future grade-point average needed to reach your cumulative CGPA goal.

Your inputs

Use the units shown beside each field. Prices are optional: enter zero to leave a cost out. Use one currency throughout.

What grades do I need to reach my target?

A target CGPA planner works backward from your desired cumulative result. Enter your current CGPA, the applicable credits behind it, the remaining credits and your target. The output is the average grade point required over those remaining credits. It is not necessarily the SGPA required in each individual semester, because semester credit totals can differ.

The target CGPA formula

Required future average = [target × (completed credits + remaining credits) − current CGPA × completed credits] ÷ remaining credits. Current CGPA multiplied by completed credits reconstructs accumulated credit points, subject to any rounding in the current figure. The target multiplied by total credits sets the final credit-point goal. Their difference is the amount that must come from the remaining study.

Worked example: 7.2 now and a goal of 8

Suppose your current CGPA is 7.2 over 80 applicable credits, with another 80 credits remaining. Reaching 8.0 over the final 160 credits requires 1,280 credit points. You already have approximately 576. The remaining 704 divided by 80 gives a required future average of 8.8. These example inputs describe arithmetic, not a university rule or an expected academic outcome.

Recognize an impossible target

The maximum final CGPA assumes the scale maximum in every remaining applicable credit. If your required average exceeds the scale maximum, the target cannot be reached under the entered assumptions. The tool explains that result rather than silently capping it. Review your credit totals and consider another target. It cannot predict extra-credit opportunities, grade replacement or a change to your programme rules.

When the required average is below zero

A negative required result means the numerical target would remain met even with zero additional credit points in this model. It does not remove passing requirements or mean that failed courses can be ignored. Degree completion, minimum semester performance and credit eligibility follow institutional rules. The planner describes a weighted-average boundary only. Always interpret it alongside the actual academic requirements.

Use matching credits and one scale

Completed credits must be the credits used to calculate the current CGPA, not an unrelated timetable total. Remaining credits must be those that will count toward the final cumulative record. Use the same scale throughout. A four-point CGPA and a ten-point target cannot be combined directly. Rounded published CGPAs can make the planning result approximate even when the input credits are correct.

Questions and next steps

Is this an official academic forecast? No, it is a scenario based on your inputs. Can it apply a university repeat policy? No, grade replacement must be reflected in an appropriately reconstructed current record. For individual course calculations, use our SGPA calculator. For combining completed semesters, use CGPA from SGPA. Percentage conversion is a separate step that requires the applicable institutional rule.
